Instructor Training Courses

1

CANSail Fundamental

The CANSail Fundamental Course is the first step in the CANSail Instructor system. Successful completion of this course will enable instructor candidates to attend further CANSail Instructor Training. The CANSail Fundamental Course has been developed to provide an opportunity for instructors to reflect, problem-solve, collaborate with peers, and continue to build on knowledge from previous experiences, skills, and new knowledge acquired from the clinic.

2

Coach Boat Safety

The Coach Boat Safety course equips instructors with the essential skills and knowledge to operate motorized coach boats safely during on-water training sessions. This hands-on course covers boat handling, emergency procedures, and best practices for ensuring the safety of sailors and other water users. Completion of this course is a key requirement for instructors, helping them manage on-water activities safely, confidently and effectively. The Sea Cadet S.C.O.P. Course is accepted as an equivalent.

3

CANSail Technical

The CANSail Technical Clinics are highly practical and hands-on, building on the theoretical knowledge gained in the Fundamental Clinic. These clinics focus on delivering CANSail material on the water, as well as managing classes and engaging students effectively. Upon successful completion, participants become trained instructors. Trained instructors can register with Sail Canada. Within two years of becoming trained, instructors must complete an evaluation to become certified. Once the evaluation is successfully completed, certification lasts for four years from the date of the technical clinic.
